Hi, I'm Jonathan Dunsky
I love history and solving puzzles, so I decided to combine my two passions by writing historical mysteries.
My main body of work is the Adam Lapid series. The Adam Lapid novels are historical mysteries that take place in Israel in the 1940s and '50s.
The one exception is The Auschwitz Detective, a book that takes place in Auschwitz in 1944.
I hope you'll join Adam Lapid as he hunts for crafty killers on the dusty streets of Israel and war-torn Europe.
You can get books 1-8 in the series for 20% off here: 8 Audiobook Bundle.
I bought all 9 books because I love them so much. He is amazing with writing and I had to buy for my own birthday! Thank you, Jonathan. Please don’t stop.
This book is actually a prequel to the Adam Lapid P.I. series set in Israel. This gripping story takes place in Munich in 1945, shortly after Germany has surrendered. Adam finds himself in a Displaced Persons Camp for Jewish survivors of the death camps. A former policeman in Hungary, the Camp's leader calls upon him to solve a murder of a camp resident. Torn between exacting revenge on any SS officer he comes across in Munich and solving this man's murder, Adam's obsession with revenge takes an unexpected turn.
I am not sure exactly what I'm reviewing? I haven't even read the book yet.
I've read all the books in the Adam Lapid series. This book went back in time to when Adam was at a DP camp after the war. I learned a lot about what life was like in that difficult time. The murder investigation was as usual intriguing. What added to the book was the side stories like the wedding Adam attended.
THE JEWISH POLICEMAN is the ninth novel in the Adam Lapid mystery series by Jonathan Dunsky. The first seven were set in Tel Aviv in the early 1950s. The eighth took place during World War II in a Nazi concentration camp. THE JEWISH POLICEMAN is another prequel. It is now 1945 and Adam is now living in a Displaced Persons Camp in Germany. While it overseen by the United States, Jewish survivors have quite a bit of influence on how it operates.
Most of the residents in the DP had lost their ties to their past. Friends and family. Their homes were gone. They also had to figure out what to do to survive.
They did not have the luxury of revenge. They had to find a way to create a viable future. The previous careers were not transferable. Having done so much forced labor in concentration camps, more labor was not a high priority goal.
A former police detective, Adam now wants vengeance for the Nazis who carried out the horrific crimes. He is approached by someone who tells him the location of one of the murderers. As he goes to carry out his plan, things become quite complicated He ends up having to be detective again.
As in all of the previous books in the series, Dunsky presents a logical, thoughtful, and engrossing story with an important but rarely covered background. My only criticism is that at one point Lina, one of the characters, and Adam were sharing some hard-to-get food. He asked her where she got them. She replied, “You first.” He complied. She never did.
Definitely five stars.
